Kathleen MATTHEWS-WARD (Broadmeadows) (17:19): (1782) My adjournment is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and the action I seek is for an independent road safety audit to be undertaken in the Glenroy activity centre, including Glenroy Road between Pascoe Vale Road and Plumpton Avenue. I met with police officers, local traders, traffic engineers and Cr Chris Miles last Thursday at the corner of Glenroy Road and Station Road to discuss the unacceptable level of accidents and near misses that occur in the vicinity. Having raised concerns previously, I understand that council and the Department of Transport and Planning have been working on infrastructure improvements at the intersection and that police have also increased enforcement of the area. While we were there, we also looked at the frustrating changes that were made to Dowd Place and Coles car park in 2022. Whilst we brainstormed some ideas together, a road safety audit would comprehensively assess the areas, including traffic and pedestrian movements and the pros and cons of different treatments, and consider any potential unintended consequences across the broader centre. It could also consider the long daily waits to enter Glenroy Road from Pascoe Vale Road and the frequent red-light offences that occur at pedestrian crossings.
