Melissa HORNE (Williamstown – Minister for Ports and Freight, Minister for Jobs, Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, Minister for Defence Industry) (09:53): Sporting clubs in the Williamstown electorate bring our community together and provide vital opportunities for younger people to be active and build friendships and those important leadership qualities. The Altona Vikings are a key part of enabling young girls in our communities to grow and be a part of a club that really feels like a family. I want to congratulate the under-14 girls, who are already through to the grand final, and I wish them all the best this weekend. Altona North Soccer Club is another example of a family-orientated community club that our electorate is so fortunate to have. Last year I secured $100,000 for the club, funding that allowed the planning for the redevelopment of the facilities at Duane reserve. I would also like to acknowledge Riccardo Conte, the president of Altona North Soccer Club, who has invested so much time in the club and has made the decision to step away after 14 years of service. I want to thank Riccardo for his hard work, and I wish him all the best. I am also excited to celebrate Yarraville Glory’s 60th anniversary later this month. I recently secured $1.18 million for the club to build new female soccer facilities, an electronic scoreboard and a new goal storage area. These upgrades have made a real difference. Finally, at last we are about to see the next stage of works on the Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club go out to public consultation, with works now proceeding to the next phase of delivery.
