Matthew GUY (Bulleen) (17:17): (1781) My adjournment tonight is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and it concerns the intersection of Tram Road and Grand Boulevard in Doncaster, which is where the Applewood nursing home has a primary intersection. At the moment the intersection is signalised, but the traffic lights that are there are only located on the side of Tram Road. This is quite a substantial road; it comes off the Eastern Freeway and goes up the hill to Doncaster Shoppingtown Westfield and the major part of central Doncaster. It is obviously a fairly busy and fairly broad road – two lanes each way with a turning lane in the centre going into the Applewood nursing home. Applewood is quite substantial. It is one of the largest in the City of Manningham. In fact I think it is the largest in terms of retirement living. It has got hundreds of individual homes and an apartment tower with units in it as well. It is very well regarded, it has got a great reputation and it has a very active committee. What has come to light recently, from Applewood residents and locals alike, is that the traffic lights at that location cannot be seen at certain times of the day in particular, and also given the extent of traffic on Tram Road, particularly going northbound now, it is difficult to see those traffic lights on the left-hand side of the road as you are going northbound up Tram Road. The action that I am seeking from the minister for roads tonight is for him to improve that intersection and to put a north- and southbound traffic light arm over the intersection so that there is a set of traffic lights both north- and southbound that extends out over the intersection, which is clearer for residents, provides better safety for residents and ultimately leads to a better outcome for everyone.
