Pauline RICHARDS (Cranbourne) (17:16): (1780) My adjournment is to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, and the action I seek is an update on how the Carroll Labor government is supporting our strong and diverse community. Happy Onam. I am proud to represent a strong and growing community of people from Kerala. I know the Malayalam-speaking community well, and I am grateful for their emphasis on family, faith, aspiration and altruism. Last weekend I was fortunate to attend the Casey Malayalee community’s Onam celebration alongside my colleagues the member for Narre Warren North and member for the South-East Metropolitan Region Mr Tarlamis in the other place. I take the opportunity to congratulate president Raigen Joseph on an extraordinary event, with many hundreds of families enjoying cultural celebrations and the solemn lighting of the lamp. Of course the attendance of King Mahabali was a highlight for us all but especially the children. As the newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health, I took the opportunity to thank the community particularly for their contributions as clinicians in our health sector. Next weekend I will be attending the Malayalee Association of Victoria’s Onam celebrations and very much look forward to this event. Our strong and diverse community enhances us, and I look forward to the minister’s response.
