David HODGETT (Croydon) (14:37): (1765) My question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. I have been contacted by parents, carers and members of the school council at Ruskin Park Primary School, who are concerned about the safety of students and families travelling to and from school. Recent changes to parking arrangements around the school implemented by Maroondah City Council have resulted in more families being forced to park further away from the school, including on the westbound side of Mount Dandenong Road, and walking. Consequently there has been a noticeable increase in the number of students, parents and carers using the pedestrian crossing on Mount Dandenong Road during school drop-off and pick-up times. The Ruskin Park Primary School council has requested that the speed limit on Mount Dandenong Road be reduced to 40 kilometres per hour during school times under the school zone speed limit legislation. This would improve safety outcomes for students and families. Minister, what measures can be implemented to enhance the safety of students, families and other pedestrians using the crossing at Mount Dandenong Road adjacent to Ruskin Avenue, Croydon, during school drop-off and pick-up times?
