The action I seek is for the minister to visit my electorate and join me in celebrating the reopening of the Ian Potter State Theatre. The state theatre is a vital part of Victoria’s cultural life and a significant home for the performing arts. Its reopening, six months ahead of schedule, is an exciting moment for the resident companies, performers and audiences across Victoria, and I know it will be warmly welcomed by my local community. I would also like to invite the minister to visit the Albert Park electorate to mark this important milestone for the $1.7 billion Melbourne arts precinct transformation project that our Labor government is delivering for Victorians. The completion of the state theatre is only the first stage of the expansive arts precinct project, which has created 11,000 jobs and will continue works on the Arts Centre and the new NGV Contemporary gallery and urban garden. The official state theatre reopening is an opportunity to recognise the considerable work that has gone into restoring and revitalising this important cultural institution. The refurbishment includes expanded accessibility accommodations and improved sound systems and temperature management, all while retaining the heritage design that the theatre is known for. I therefore ask the minister to join me for the reopening of the Ian Potter State Theatre and welcome the opportunity to meet with local arts organisations and members of my community to celebrate this significant occasion.
