Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (14:28): (1818) My constituency question is to the Treasurer, and it is on behalf of Oliver, a grade 6 student at Balwyn Primary School and a finalist in my Kew first speech competition. The information I seek from the Treasurer is: how much Victorian government debt is projected for students at Balwyn Primary School when they become taxpayers? Oliver pointed out, when he delivered his speech in this chamber on Monday, that every single hour over $1 million of taxpayer money vanishes into thin air just to service past debt. Oliver said that it is time for this government to manage its budget in the same way our families manage theirs – with care, with responsibility and with a clear focus on what matters most. Oliver and his classmates deserve to know how much debt they are on track to inherit by the time they are old enough to start paying it off, and I will finish where Oliver did. As a famous man once said, it is time to stop borrowing from our future just to pay for the mistakes of our past.
