Gary MAAS (Narre Warren South) (17:19): (1840) The adjournment matter I wish to raise is for the Minister for Health and concerns the state Labor government’s recent investments in our healthcare system. The action that I seek is that the minister provides an update on how these investments benefit constituents in my electorate of Narre Warren South. The Carroll Labor government is working hard to support our healthcare system by bolstering services and backing hardworking health professionals. Over the last decade we have grown the health workforce by over 50 per cent. That is more than 40,000 nurses, midwives, doctors, allied health professionals and other hospital staff in the state’s health services. We are supporting more paramedics to join the frontline, responding to the increase in demand that our emergency services have faced in recent years as our population continues to grow. More MICA paramedics and graduate paramedics are set to join the on-road health workforce. More people can get the care they need when they need it, and more planned surgeries are being completed in our hospitals in record-breaking numbers. There is always more to do of course, but a state Labor government will always protect our world-class healthcare system because we know just how important and precious it is. I thank all the healthcare workers in my community for their incredible work, as well as all of the unions who advocate for stronger protections across this workforce. I look forward to sharing the minister’s response with my community.
