Michaela SETTLE (Eureka – Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Water) (10:23): I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bacchus Marsh College to hear about the exciting plans for the new seniors learning community. Bacchus Marsh is growing rapidly, and our schools need to grow with it. That is why I am so pleased that the Carroll Labor government is investing $19 million to deliver a new learning hub at Bacchus Marsh College. The new facilities will create capacity for an additional 300 students and provide modern, contemporary learning spaces for both students and teachers with science labs and art technology labs. What really struck me, though, during my visit was the ambition the college has for its senior learning community. This is about so much more than new buildings. It is about creating an environment where senior students can take greater responsibility for their learning, prepare for further education, training or work and feel proud of their school. For families in Bacchus Marsh it also means more young people can access an excellent education close to home. I want to thank the principal Dionne Fenton, who took the time to talk me through the vision she has. Bacchus Marsh is a wonderful and rapidly growing community, and strong local schools are absolutely central to its future. I am very proud this government has supported it.
