John MULLAHY (Glen Waverley) (17:27): (1844) My adjournment matter is to the Minister for Education, and the action I seek is for the minister to visit Glen Waverley Secondary College, affectionately known throughout our community as Glenny. Glen Waverley Secondary College is one of the best secondary schools in Victoria, and it has been for decades. Under the leadership of successive principals the school has built an outstanding reputation for academic achievement, dedicated teaching and a culture that encourages every student to aim high and reach their full potential. I particularly want to thank principal Suzanne Plant for her outstanding leadership along with the entire team of teachers, education support staff and school leaders. Their commitment to their students is what makes Glenny such a great school. It is a school our local community is incredibly proud of. Families choose to make Glen Waverley their home knowing their children will have access to an exceptional local government school. It is fair to say that Glen Waverley Secondary College has played an important role in making Glen Waverley the community it is today. But while the school’s reputation and enrolments have continued to grow, its facilities have not kept pace. Today nearly 2500 students are learning in facilities that are increasingly stretched for space and no longer provide the modern learning environment that students and staff deserve. I have been listening closely to the school community and advocating for the investment needed to take this great school forward. I invite the minister to visit Glenny; meet principal Suzanne Plant and her team; hear directly from students, staff and families; and see firsthand what is needed to take this outstanding school into the next chapter.
