Martin CAMERON (Morwell) (17:21): (1841) My adjournment matter this evening is for the Minister for Environment, and the action I seek is for the minister to explain to the constituents in my electorate what she is doing to help progress the waste-to-energy project proposed for Maryvale. The waste-to-energy project presents a rare opportunity for the Latrobe Valley to be a leader in this space. It will take waste from landfill that is at capacity across Victoria and importantly provide much-needed economic stimulus and jobs in the region. In the valley far too many opportunities and new industries have been lost to us through government inaction. We lost the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain project, which pioneered the conversion of brown coal to gas and would have provided 2000 desperately needed jobs. We lost the proposed $2 billion urea project, which would have made fertiliser from brown coal, also worth up to about 2000 jobs. And we were told that we would become the centre of electric vehicle manufacturing in Victoria with a new facility that promised 500 jobs. Project proponents, council and the local community are in limbo waiting for the government to provide clear information about the regulatory path forward for waste to energy. Minister, will you explain to the constituents in my electorate what you are doing to help progress the waste-to-energy project proposed for Maryvale?
