Gabrielle DE VIETRI (Richmond) (10:24): People often ask me, ‘With just seven MPs in a Parliament of over 100, what can the Greens realistically achieve?’ Well, in four years we have delivered rental reforms, including ending rental bidding and no-grounds evictions, privacy measures and mandatory heating and cooling. We have helped end native forest logging. We have strengthened integrity by forcing ministers to publish their diaries. We have expanded powers for IBAC. I am so proud to have campaigned for and been the deciding vote in our Statewide Treaty, which is now law in Victoria after decades of advocacy from First Nations communities. As your local MP I have delivered funding for our local schools; $150 million for local cycling and walking upgrades; a vacant homes tax and Airbnb regulations; food relief programs in Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond; funding for Cohealth; an extended Pride street party; and outreach workers for North Richmond. Imagine what we could do with more Greens voices in Parliament: we can cut rents, we can build public housing, we can cut stamp duty and bring down costs with free dental care and free public transport. We can end corruption and get money out of politics. We can protect nature and we can end coal and gas. And we can pay for it by making big corporations pay their fair share.
