 James NEWBURY (Brighton) (14:12): My question is to the Premier. Yesterday a Labor donor that made millions of dollars on the Big Build was raided by police. How can Victorians trust a Premier whose government is funded by proceeds of crime to clean up corruption in this state?

The SPEAKER: Leader of the Nationals, this is a warning. Leader of the House, you are also warned.

 Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier) (14:13): I am going to just say two things on this matter. Victoria has the toughest donation laws in the country, with more transparency than ever before. Secondly, we are about to commence the toughest royal commission Victoria has seen.

James Newbury: On a point of order for clarity, on relevance, Speaker, we know the donation was taken. What we are concerned about is the money hanging out of the Premier’s pocket.

The SPEAKER: That is not a point of order.

 James NEWBURY (Brighton) (14:13): This is the second Big Build labour hire firm and Labor donor to be raided by police. If integrity is no longer optional, will the Premier come clean on how many Labor donor contractors raided by police have received work on the Big Build?

 Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier) (14:14): Under our government 165 labour hire firms have been cancelled. And on top of that, we are doing the best and strongest royal commission in history.
