Will the minister take further measures to counter deteriorating community safety, crime and antisocial behaviour in the Mornington electorate, particularly caused by youth crime? Residents, business owners, parents and visitors are reporting more frequent and serious incidents. Concerns are especially bad around local shops, beaches and lifesaving clubs. Just a few days ago a local was chased in broad daylight by a gang of 15 youths on Shire Hall Beach. They threw rocks and beer bottles at local homes, lit an illegal fire and stalked my constituent, yelling threats to assault her. These incidents highlight the need for greater police presence across Shire Hall Beach and other local hotspots, including Mount Martha South Beach, the Mornington Life Saving Club and elsewhere. The latest stats also show we are now the car theft capital of Victoria. The opposition recognise this current gap and are pledging to put on an additional 3000 police, and we will reopen the Mornington police station front counter hours to 24/7. This is what the community needs.
