Kathleen MATTHEWS-WARD (Broadmeadows) (14:29): (1819) My constituency question is for the Minister for Public Transport, and I ask: what percentage of train services have not completed the full service on the Upfield line in the last six months, and what other measures are in place to improve services on the Upfield line? The minister is aware of my strong and continued advocacy for the duplication and extension of the Upfield line to enable additional peak services. On top of the 77 new evening and weekend services that began last week, our new Victorian-made X’Trapolis trains and carriages are providing increased capacity and comfort. We have also updated the bus timetables to better connect with the train schedules. But we know that duplication is required to enable increased peak services, and I was proud to secure $3.65 million in the budget for the final business case. I hear far too many stories from my constituents of being stranded for excessive lengths of time and being late for work, school, appointments and childcare pick-ups due to Metro Trains’ unacceptable decision to turn back trains at Batman station.
