Anthony CARBINES (Ivanhoe – Leader of the House, Minister for Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy, Minister for Major Events, Minister for Medical Research, Minister for Racing, Minister for Economic Development) (17:43): The member for Gippsland South raised a matter for the Minister for Education regarding action on the Mirboo North secondary and primary schools’ local stadium. The member for Broadmeadows raised a matter for the Minister for Planning, with the action to deal with matters of a public notice period on the planning and an extension of the application for a data centre at the former Ford site in Campbellfield. The honourable member for Bulleen, who is no longer with us, raised a matter for the Minister for Public Transport seeking action to campaign for respectful behaviour across the public transport network. The member for Narre Warren South raised a matter for the Minister for Education seeking an update on how the EBA for teacher, principals and support staff is supporting those great workers in our schools in his electorate. The member for Warrandyte raised a matter for the Premier, seeking action to take measures to ensure voters understand the preferential voting system.
The member for Cranbourne raised a matter for the Minister for Multicultural Affairs seeking an update on how we are supporting Saturday language schools, particularly the Zimbabwean Saturday school. The member for Ovens Valley raised a matter for the Minister for Environment in the other place with regard to the North East Catchment Management Authority seeking action to support farmers, particularly along those creeks and rivers that are prone to flooding. He went into detail about those matters. The member for Preston raised a matter for the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts seeking changes to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 so social and public housing providers can evict tenants if required. The member for Hawthorn raised a matter for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety seeking action to minimise pedestrian risks at Windsor Crescent and a local reserve in his electorate. The member for Pascoe Vale raised a matter for the Minister for Youth seeking action to outline supports for young people in his Pascoe Vale electorate, and he reflected on the magnificent work of the Don Bosco centre in his electorate. I commend all those matters to you, Speaker, for further action.
May I also add my congratulations to you, Speaker, following your decision not to contest the next election in Bendigo West. I thank you for your service as a fellow member of the class of 2010. There were not so many of us on this side of the house in 2010, so it is always a small reunion group, and growing smaller all the time. I also say to you, having been married in your electorate to a Maldon girl, I know from regular visits there over a very long time, at least in the 16 years that you have been here, the regard that people have for you in your electorate. It comes through all the time in the conversations that I hear and the actions that I have seen locally over very many years. That is something I am sure you draw great comfort and strength from. I certainly wish you every success. I know in-laws and others in my family alone will be sad but also really thrilled and pleased for you, and not only for what you have achieved here. The journey that we have had together has been something that I will always remember. Go well, and thank you very much.
The SPEAKER: Thank you, Leader of the House. As always, I thank the clerks and our parliamentary staff for supporting us this sitting week. The house now stands adjourned.
House adjourned 5:47 pm.
