Box Hill electorate sports clubs
Paul HAMER (Box Hill – Minister for Roads and Road Safety) (10:03): It is coming to the end of another local football and winter netball season, and I want to give a shout-out to a couple of great local clubs in the Box Hill electorate. Congratulations to the Whitehorse Pioneers netball team, which won the Eastern Football Netball League division 8 premiership with a decisive 31–16 victory over Vermont last weekend. A special shout-out to Hannah Smart, who was named best on court. Congratulations, Hannah. I know the club’s purpose-built training court at Springfield Park in Box Hill North, fully funded by our Labor government, has been pivotal to the success of the club and hopefully this is the start of many more successes. In the footy, the Pioneers under-19s division 3 team has moved past Rowville and will now face Upper Ferntree Gully in the preliminary final this weekend. Good luck to all involved. I recently visited the club to announce that it will receive training and safety equipment as part of the North East Link community grant to boost on-field performance, which I am sure will lead to more success in the future. Congratulations to the mighty Surrey Park Panthers football and netball teams for their fantastic seasons. The Surrey Black netball team are through to the division 2 grand final this Friday against Vermont, while their under-19s development men’s and senior men’s footy teams are through to the division 2 semi-finals. To have all three football teams play finals this year is an outstanding result given that it is only the second year that the club has been in division 2. Best luck to everyone.
