Constituency questions

Euroa electorate

Annabelle CLEELAND

Euroa electorate

Annabelle CLEELAND (Euroa) (14:33): (1792) My question is to the Minister for Public Transport. Why was the V/Line timetable for services from Heathcote Junction and Wandong to Seymour changed so that the service which previously arrived at 8:36 am now arrives at nearly 9 am? Gabriel’s daughter has just started at St Mary’s College in Seymour, and the old timetable, with the train arriving at 8:36 am, was a key reason for the family choosing that school. Under the new timetable she will not arrive until 8:57 am, after the school day has started, and the only alternative is 7:46 am, nearly an hour earlier, meaning she will be forced to stand outside the locked gates at the school. Driving her every day is not affordable with fuel costs where they are. Dean Wood, Julie O’Neill and so many others have reached out and said this is ludicrous and that there was absolutely no consultation with the community when these decisions were made. There is now a replacement bus for students, but not for those trying to get to work. Will the minister commit to reviewing this timetable so that students like Gabriel’s daughter can get to school safely and on time? If any further changes happen, please consult with the community.

The SPEAKER: Member for Euroa, you asked two questions. Which one do you want to stand?

Annabelle CLEELAND: The first: why was the V/Line timetable changed?
