Martin CAMERON (Morwell) (14:37): (1796) My question is to the Premier. The Victorian Auditor-General yesterday revealed Labor quietly hiked every public transport ticket by 1 per cent from January 2025, buried inside the annual fare increase, in a bid to fund the problematic Suburban Rail Loop project. That equates to an additional $60 a week in public transport fares, more than $3000 a year for frequent commuters, all to covertly bleed an additional $8 billion from Victorians. Sixty per cent of that revenue, an estimated $4.8 billion by 2062, is earmarked to fund the SRL East, making the secret tax the project’s single biggest source of value capture funding. The secret tax was signed off in 2021 when the Premier was Minister for Public Transport. Regional Victorians are yet again being forced to bankroll a multibillion-dollar project in Melbourne that most of them will never use. My question to the Premier is: how long has the Premier known about the secret public transport tax that Labor deceptively introduced to bankroll the Suburban Rail Loop?
The SPEAKER: I presume you mean the government, member for Morwell.
