 Mathew HILAKARI (Point Cook) (13:22): I am pleased to report on another milestone being reached in Point Cook, on the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue intersection. The lights are on, and it is a much smoother and safer ride for our community, removing the multiple roundabouts that were in place that made that section of road dangerous for our community. It is now safer. I walked across the road via the first pedestrian crossing that we have had in that area I think ever. It is work that should have been done 30 years ago and that we are getting on with today. I can also let people know in the community that I represent that we will be closing the exit towards Altona Meadows and refurbing that from mid-September – 13 September in fact. Then we will be getting on with duplicating Central Avenue, and we should have done this – Werribee council should have done this when they bought up the properties at that time. But we will get on with that job with the support of the federal government. I thank them for that support. Next, if Labor is re-elected at this election, we will be duplicating Point Cook Road from Central Avenue all the way through to Dunnings Road. This is what the community that I represent have been calling for for a long time, and I am so glad that we will be delivering this, just like we did the lights at Sneydes Road – that intersection was so dangerous before – which is safer to get through and faster to get through for our community. And there is more: at Williams Landing station we have just introduced the lift and the Parkiteer so we have bikes kept safely at the site.
