Issue:

This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the state of the West Gippsland Hospital and call on the Victorian Government to urgently commit to the planning, funding and construction of a new West Gippsland Hospital.

We believe the people of West Gippsland deserve access to a modern hospital that is safe, fit for purpose and capable of meeting the growing needs of our community now and into the future.

The current hospital facilities are under increasing pressure due to population growth, ageing infrastructure, increasing demand for health services and the need to provide appropriate care close to home.

A new Hospital would;

•   Provide improved access to essential health services for local residents.

•   Support emergency care, medical services and specialist treatment.

•   Provide a safer and more suitable environment for patients, families and healthcare workers.

•   Support the recruitment and retention of skilled health professionals.

•   Ensure West Gippsland has healthcare facilities that match the needs of our growing region.

Many residents currently face long travel distances to access services that should be available locally. Delays in providing a new hospital risks placing further pressure on patients, families and healthcare workers.

Action:

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly call on the Victorian Government and Members of Parliament to recognise the urgent need for a new West Gippsland Hospital and commit to a clear timeline for its delivery.

•   Acknowledge the urgent healthcare needs of the West Gippsland Community.

•   Commit to funding and progressing a new hospital development.

•   Provide a transparent plan and timeline for delivery.
