This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the critical structural decline of the historic Jeparit Weir. Following a Hindmarsh Shire Council feasibility study, it has been confirmed that this 1902 infrastructure has reached the end of its operational life. The weir pool is an essential environmental and community asset that directly supports regional tourism, local wildlife ecosystems, and vital recreational activities for residents. Without immediate state-level funding intervention to fully replace and upgrade the structure, the town of Jeparit risks losing an invaluable asset, severely harming the local economy and regional liveability. Not only that, without action, the flora and fauna face an environmental crisis and the loss of our local ecosystems.

Action:

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly provide urgent state infrastructure funding to the Hindmarsh Shire Council to fully restore, replace, and secure the future of the Jeparit Weir structure.
