 Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (13:14): Victorians under Labor are the highest taxed people in the country, but Labor wants more: a secret tax on every bus, train and tram user under this Labor government. But Labor were caught out by the auditors for whacking every public transport user for the past two years with a secret tax that they never told the Victorian people about – a tax that was projected to add more than $60 a week to public transport fares and raise $8 billion from Victorian public transport users, much of which Labor planned to funnel to their unfunded Suburban Rail Loop on the corruption-ridden Big Build. It is just so corrupt. The now Premier Carroll was the Minister for Public Transport in 2021 when this secret new tax was approved under Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan. Victorians deserve lower taxes, not for their government to hike taxes in secret. The Carroll Labor government is addicted to taxing hardworking Victorians, making the cost of living for families harder, and the secret public transport tax was just the tip of the iceberg. Now new documents expose Premier Carroll and Labor for plotting new taxes on every family home, with up to $110 every year on every Melburnian household to fund the SRL, and paying consultants to find new ways to tax suburban families more. You cannot trust a government that taxes you in secret. Only the Liberals will restore integrity and budget honesty and lower taxes for Victorians.
