Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (14:28): (1718) Victorian public schools are the lowest funded in Australia under the Labor government, and Labor has failed to invest in new buildings needed at schools in the Evelyn electorate. My question is to the Minister for Education: when will the government fund a new multipurpose gymnasium and assembly hall for Birmingham Primary School in Mount Evelyn? The Premier has said in Parliament that the government would invest in every school in every postcode, but his actions do not match his words. Labor has failed to provide any funding to build a new multipurpose hall with gymnasium, kitchen and change rooms at Birmingham Primary School. Currently the school has nearly 700 students and 70 staff and has no indoor space that can accommodate all the students and teachers in one location for assemblies, for school presentations or for indoor sport when the weather outside is hot or rainy. Birmingham Primary School is a wonderful school. Together we have long advocated for this new building, which would provide a significant benefit to the school: fit-for-purpose facilities that the school community deserves.
