Natalie HUTCHINS (Sydenham) (10:39): I rise today to highlight the vital progress that is being made on Calder Park Drive and the new interchange project and thank the federal government for their contribution in working with us on this project. The major upgrade will significantly improve safety and streamline access along the busy Calder Freeway – a freeway that I use every day. The project will deliver a full diamond interchange at Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive, raising the freeway over Calder Park Drive. To eliminate dangerous conflict points, existing access to the freeway at both Calder Park Raceway and the Organ Pipes National Park will be closed. Access alternatives will be built into the redevelopment and are currently in the planning stages. These critical safety changes will allow the freeway speed limit to be increased to 100 kilometres an hour at Calder Park Drive, which is something residents have been calling for for decades. We are currently in the preconstruction phase. Key planning activities are well underway, including refining the design, obtaining planning approvals and preparing a cultural heritage management plan. Crews are conducting detailed environmental investments, and the groundwork is underway, as are site investigations. This project is a massive win for road safety and local residents.
