 Cindy McLEISH (Eildon) (10:21): It was a remarkable effort by the Panton Hill Football Netball Club, clocking up 100 years. It has not been easy, with challenges from the start. The club were formed in 1926, but they realised quickly they did not have a home ground to play on. Several dedicated locals got together and diligently worked with picks and mattocks in their spare time to carve out the hill so they could have a relatively flat surface. Three years later they had a home ground. It is hard for a small club in a small town to stay afloat for 100 years. Neighbouring clubs have succumbed to the challenges. The club celebrated its centenary recently and announced inductees into its inaugural hall of fame to acknowledge those who have made an exceptional and lasting contribution over the years. I want to acknowledge Warren Emson, who played 238 games; Ron Archer; 60s legend Roy Woolley; goal kicker Mick Carns; long-serving committee man Ron Dwyer; and leaders Scott Walker and Will Box, who have done a remarkable job.
