Adjournment

Government expenditure

Moira DEEMING

Government expenditure

Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (18:54): (2639) My adjournment matter is for the Treasurer, and the action that I seek is for the Treasurer to cut excessive spending on overpaid fat cat bureaucrats and instead fund frontline services, such as properly paying teachers, giving firefighters proper equipment and all kinds of other very important things like that. We know that the Silver review found that the Victorian public service has become top heavy and that between 2019 and 2024, while the VPS grew by 16 per cent, executives and senior technical specialists grew by 82 per cent. Over 55 per cent of the ordinary VPS-grade workforce is now senior classifications – the most expensive kinds. This is billions and billions of dollars that we could make in savings to improve services and get rid of useless bureaucrats. Victorians deserve that, and they need that.
