Adjournment

Southern Metropolitan Region small businesses

John BERGER

Southern Metropolitan Region small businesses

John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (18:43): (2634) My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Small and Family Business in the other place. We now know that in the last financial year Victoria saw 123,000 new small businesses opening, giving us a net growth in the number of small businesses in Victoria of 2.3 per cent. This has been facilitated by the decisions we have made to promote business growth in this state; for example, raising the payroll tax free threshold over time to now sit at $1 million. We are also making it easier to do business in this state with what we are delivering, including halving the number of business regulators and cutting $500 million in compliance costs by 2030. To support our hospitality sector, we are making it easy to get a liquor licence and easier to get approval for outdoor dining. The action that I seek is for the minister to provide an update on how many new small businesses opened in the financial year in the Southern Metropolitan Region.
