Constituency questions

North-Eastern Metropolitan Region

Nick McGOWAN

North-Eastern Metropolitan Region

Nick McGOWAN (North-Eastern Metropolitan) (12:51): (2447) It is important that when the new education minister is appointed they give some consideration, I hope very quickly, to Heathmont East Primary School, President, which I know you too are very passionate about. Heathmont East Primary School have, unbelievably perhaps, 18 portables – that is, 18 temporary classrooms. That is to say, put differently, they have six permanent classrooms. For any school that is quite an astronomical figure. Over the winter break they had the destruction, the demolition, of a previous wing, which contained 11 classrooms. You can imagine what kind of void that has left at that school. The school has had previous funding. However, stages 2 and 3 have not been committed to. I ask the incoming Minister for Education to urgently look at Heathmont East Primary School funding. We desperately need stages 2 and 3 funded to ensure that our children have the best possible education locally. They have sensational teachers and a sensational leadership team. We want to have these classrooms. They are desperately needed.
