The PRESIDENT: Order! Minister Stitt, can you sit down for a second. Can we just reset the clock and start again. Mr Davis, I spoke about this yesterday. I think sometimes when members are talking about something we could all probably agree with, it would be good if they were left without interjections. Minister Stitt from the start.
Ingrid STITT: Earlier this month I visited the Melbourne Grand Mosque alongside the member for Tarneit, where I met with the imam and the committee members to hear directly about the issues that are affecting our community in Melbourne’s western suburbs. MGM has grown to become one of the most significant places of worship, welcoming around 10,000 people for Friday prayers alone. This space is far more than a mosque; it is a place of faith, learning, connection and support for thousands of families in Melbourne’s west. During the visit we spoke about the rise of racism and Islamophobia incidents recently, not only with their mosque but with neighbouring mosques and members of the wider Muslim community. I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the difficult time that our Muslim community is going through right now and has been over the last couple of years. The Labor government stands with you. We stand against racism, Islamophobia and hatred in all its forms, and we remain committed to ensuring Victoria is a place where every person can live with dignity, with safety and with a true sense of belonging. Victoria is a great place to live, and our multiculturalism is fundamental to that.
