Adjournment
Twelve Apostles precinct redevelopment
Gayle TIERNEY (Western Victoria) (18:49): (2637) My adjournment matter this evening is for the Minister for Regional Development, and the action I seek is for the latest update on the progress of the new Twelve Apostles visitor experience centre. The Twelve Apostles is one of Victoria’s most recognised destinations, attracting visitors from across Australia and of course right across the world. The new visitor experience will enhance access to this extraordinary part of our coastline, better protect the natural environment and provide a world-class experience for generations to come. A little while ago I did join the Minister for Regional Development, as well as my colleague from Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora and Labor’s candidate for Polwarth Hutch Hussein, and we had a really good look through the construction site. We saw firsthand this impressive project. Already the project has created more than 750 jobs, supported over 100 local businesses and provided opportunities for more than 50 apprentices, and that is something that our whole region can be very proud of. Proudly funded by the state and the federal Labor governments through the Geelong City Deal, this investment is backing local communities today while helping more visitors discover everything that our beautiful Shipwreck Coast has to offer. More visitors staying longer in our region means greater opportunities for the incredible hospitality businesses that we have, our retailers and tourism operators right along the Great Ocean Road and beyond. It is an investment that supports jobs now and will drive economic activity, ensuring our region continues to thrive. I look forward to the minister’s update on this significant project, including how it will particularly benefit our region in Western Victoria.
