Southern Metropolitan Region schools

Ryan BATCHELOR (Southern Metropolitan) (09:59): Last month I visited Glen Eira College to officially open Bulukuyt, the school’s new senior learning building. The building accommodates modern science labs and classrooms connected by a central shared space that can be used for informal study and small group work, and all the classrooms have direct access to the outdoors. The ground floor is connected to seating areas and upper levels with balconies, but most impressive of all is the roof terrace, which is now the common area for the year 12s, with sweeping views of the bay, of the city and of Caulfield racetrack. Talking to the students, they told me how they are already up there using those learning spaces so productively. This school upgrade at Glen Eira College is one of the more than 2400 upgrades that Labor has delivered to Victorian public schools since coming to government. In Southern Metro alone Labor has opened seven new schools and delivered upgrades to more than 100 others. Works are underway at Caulfield South Primary School, where a new competition-grade gymnasium is being built. At Glen Huntly Primary we have refurbished the school’s library and we have built a new gymnasium. Carnegie Primary has a new games hall for specialised learning and a new canteen, and in 2021, upgrades to the main building at Murrumbeena Primary included delivery of new and improved facilities for students and staff. The investments mean that students in Caulfield, Glen Huntly, Carnegie and Murrumbeena can receive the education they deserve from prep right through to year 12 when they graduate, thanks to this Labor government.
