Cohealth

Sheena WATT (Northern Metropolitan) (09:56): Community health organisations are the absolute backbone of our primary care system, and I know firsthand just how vital Cohealth is to my community in the Northern Metropolitan Region. Day in and day out they provide essential, compassionate care to some of our most vulnerable locals. That is why our government is so deeply committed to ensuring that these services remain reliable and strong. Over the last year alone we delivered more than $68 million in funding to Cohealth. Let me be completely clear: with that level of vital public investment comes a fundamental expectation of transparency, strong governance and absolute accountability. Following the recent independent review into Cohealth’s general practice model, governance and finances, it became crystal clear that confidence and community trust urgently needed to be restored. The review explicitly recommended that we need to see strengthened senior management and much tighter board governance. We have listened and we have acted. The Minister for Health has appointed Chris Altis as an independent board monitor at Cohealth for an initial 12-month term. They bring over 30 years of deep practical experience in the health sector, including vital work with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He will be in the room attending board meetings as an independent observer, providing crucial oversight and reporting back directly to government. It is a necessary opportunity for Cohealth to deliver the safe, sustainable health care that Victorians thoroughly deserve.
