Nina TAYLOR (Albert Park) (19:15): (1804) My adjournment is for the Minister for Children. The action I seek is for the minister to visit the new Narrarrang kindergarten in Port Melbourne. The kindergarten has been built at the recently opened Narrarrang Primary School site as part of this government’s $3.8 billion program to fund the building of kindergartens as part of our Best Start, Best Life reforms. Victoria is leading the nation through these reforms, saving families money on kindergarten and allowing parents to return to work or study. The Narrarrang kindergarten will support the physical and mental health of children in the local area during a critical time for their personal and social development. As we increase the number of free hours of three- and four-year-old kinder per week, these new kindergartens will play an even more significant role in the lives of young families, giving children who complete two years of kindergarten even more academic and cognitive benefits that will stay with them well into their schooling years. Additionally, building kindergartens at primary schools makes the transition to school easier for parents and children. As the area of Fishermans Bend continues to go through Australia’s largest urban renewal program, I warmly invite the Minister for Children to come and see this new facility in my electorate, which will serve the community of an important growth area for years to come.
