Peter WALSH (Murray Plains) (09:43): With the winding down of the 60th Parliament, it is important to say a few thankyous. To all the voters of the old Swan Hill electorate and to all the voters of the now Murray Plains electorate: thank you very much for giving me the privilege of being the local member for you over the last 24 years. To all the staff in my electorate office, to all the staff in my minister’s office when I was a minister and to all the staff that were in my leader’s office when I was leader of the party: thank you very much for everything you have done to help me. Thank you for helping me fulfil the mission that I set out to do when I came into Parliament: to help people and try and make Victoria a better place. To Bridget Noonan, the now Clerk; to Ray Purdey, the former Clerk; and to all the staff of the Parliament: thank you for what you do to keep us on track and, more importantly, to save us from ourselves sometimes when we want to do things here in Parliament. You are the protectors of our parliamentary system, and it has been an absolute privilege to work with you all. To you, Speaker, and to all the speakers before you: again, thank you for what you do in keeping all us schoolchildren in control. It has been a very important thing that you have all carried out. And lastly, thank you to the ministers on the other side when we have been in opposition, when you have helped us or your office has helped us in our electorate office to help people, because that is what we all come here for – to make sure the world is a better place.
