 Juliana ADDISON (Wendouree) (19:06): (1800) My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, and the action I seek is that the minister visit my electorate of Wendouree to meet with stakeholders who are helping to grow Ballarat’s visitor economy. Ballarat is one of Victoria’s premier regional tourism destinations for good reason. There is so much to enjoy with our golden history and glorious 19th-century architecture, our beautiful Lake Wendouree and its iconic black swans, and our hospitality venues, which are exceptional. We are spoilt for choice with amazing dining venues like Babae, Dyers, Lola, the North Britain and Meigas, as well as local distilleries Kilderkin, Grainery Lane and Itinerant Spirits and local brewers Aunty Jacks, Red Duck and Hop Temple.

The Carroll Labor government continues to invest in attractions and events that draw visitors to our city and support local jobs. It would be remiss of me not to reference our iconic goldfields outdoor museum, Sovereign Hill, and I am delighted to share that the Victorian government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund is supporting the expansion of the Sovereign Hill hotel precinct, with 22 ‍new guest rooms, improved accessibility and enhanced guest facilities. This investment will increase capacity for holidaymakers, families, school groups and organised tours. This investment will enable more visitors to stay in Ballarat for longer and experience everything our region has to offer.

The Labor government is also supporting major events that bring thousands of visitors to our city. The Ballarat Marathon has quickly become a significant event on Victoria’s sporting calendar, while the Ballarat International Foto Biennale continues to attract artists, photographers and visitors from across Australia and around the world. Ballarat also enjoyed the Always Live program earlier this year with Dan Sultan, Blusher, Hope D and Apples. It was a great day for live music that activated our city and strengthened our visitor economy. With the school holidays approaching, I invite and encourage all Victorians to make the trip to Ballarat, whether for a day visit by car or train or for a stay. You will be warmly welcomed. I look forward to welcoming the minister to Wendouree.
