 John MULLAHY (Glen Waverley) (10:05): It was a great pleasure to attend the official opening of the new Vermont reserve pavilion, an outstanding home for local sport and the wider Vermont community. I acknowledge the Vermont Eagles football and netball club president Danny Ross, Vermont Cricket Club president Trent Touhy and Vermont Sports Club president Don Parsons and the committees, together with many volunteers whose hard work keeps these proud clubs thriving. I also acknowledge Whitehorse City Council for delivering this important project. The new pavilion reflects the Victorian government’s fair access policy, helping to ensure women and girls and people of all backgrounds and abilities have equal access to high-quality, welcoming and inclusive sporting facilities. The $750,000 Victorian government investment has helped upgrade the oval, install new LED lighting and complete this magnificent new pavilion.

On another matter, I was also delighted to attend the official opening of the new Brandon Park Reserve pavilion and upgraded car park. This is another fantastic investment in community sport, with a $500,000 contribution from the Victorian government providing modern facilities for the Mazenod Football – that is soccer – Club and the Mulgrave Wheelers Hill Cricket Club. I also acknowledge everyone from both clubs who helped make this project possible. I would like to thank the committees, the volunteers, president Dilan Liyanage from the Mulgrave Wheelers Hill Cricket Club and also acknowledge the City of Monash and mayor Stuart James for their partnership and commitment in this project. Both projects demonstrate what can be achieved when governments, councils and community clubs work together and when the Victorian government’s fair access policy is put into practice.
