Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (14:38): (1778) The Carroll Labor government continues to ride roughshod over local communities, approving plans for massive developments under its development facilitation program without any consultation, putting corporate interests before people. My question to the Labor government’s Minister for Planning is: why have you approved a massive, secretive development at 65 Quarry Road, Lilydale, of 106 warehouses and 481 car parks on open green space within metres of homes, a school and the Nelson Road open drain flood zone, without proper community consultation and while ignoring residents’ fierce objections? Lilydale residents are shocked by the scale of this mega-industrial project that will result in a significant increase in traffic and large trucks – over 1100 vehicles seven days a week on a quiet residential street – and they deserve an explanation from Premier Carroll and his planning minister about them riding roughshod over the Lilydale community without an environment effects statement or information on impacts on road safety and congestion, stormwater management or increased flood risk in a flood zone. The community is wondering what deals have been done.
