Martin CAMERON (Morwell) (14:40): (1780) My constituency question is for the Minister for Energy and Resources in the other place, and my question is: how is the minister assisting Latrobe Magnesium to progress its commercial project in the Latrobe Valley? Latrobe Magnesium has hit a roadblock with commercialising its project in my electorate because of the trailing liabilities issue that has prevented access to land and the fly ash needed to produce the magnesium by-product. This has come about as an unintended consequence of the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Amendment (Financial Assurance) Act 2026, which was passed earlier this year. The previous minister promised to resolve the issue preventing progression of the project by August, but that has not happened. The company’s operations in Victoria are not viable unless a solution is found immediately. This project is worth millions to the local economy and hundreds of jobs, but Latrobe Magnesium is under pressure to leave Victoria because of the delays.
