Daniela DE MARTINO (Monbulk) (14:31): (1731) My question is for the Minister for Environment. Would the minister consider increasing support for the deer control program to address the scourge of deer across the Dandenong Ranges? Many of my constituents across the Dandenongs have raised concerns about deer, including growers, private landowners, environmental advocates and drivers who have experienced collisions or near misses on our roads due to their presence. It is well known that deer inflict significant damage across our region. They destroy indigenous plants, trample sensitive habitat and threaten fauna and biodiversity in our national parks and reserves. They damage private fences, gardens and agricultural crops, and they are creating serious safety risks on our roads, which I know myself personally. There is nothing quite so confronting as coming face to face with a full-grown 300-kilogram sambar stag with antlers spanning more than half a metre while out on your morning walk. And while encounters like this are becoming increasingly common, the impact of deer on our environment, agriculture and road safety is far more concerning.
