 Luba GRIGOROVITCH (Kororoit – Minister for Youth, Minister for Carers and Volunteers) (10:05): I have had the great honour of being the member for Kororoit for 1341 days, and during this time a lot has been achieved. The Hopkins Road level crossing bridge is now fully open, and the new 140 bus route is now operational in Mount Atkinson. Residents have told me how much of a game changer this really is. Instead of feeling isolated, they feel connected. One local mum messaged me to say how this bus has made it easier for her to drop her child off at child care, and another young man told me that this will mean that he does not have to rely on his parents to get to university. That is huge and the independence that every young person needs. In Deer Park we now have the 405 bus route connecting Deer Park station to Brimbank shopping centre, and yesterday we had a huge announcement: the intersection between Leakes Road and the on and off ramps of the Western Freeway is finally getting lights. This will include a marked pedestrian crossing with signals. This will make this dangerous intersection so much safer, and words simply cannot explain the joy of the community when I let them know last night.

Thank you to the countless community members who have advocated for these important changes, particularly everyone at Leakes Needs Lights and the Mount Atkinson community residents group. All tiers of government have worked on this, from our local councillors to our federal local member Alice Jordan-Baird – a true community effort. We on this side will always get things done for the west, and we know that there is more to do. Thank you to the entire community for being part of this campaign.
