Ministers statements: public transport

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:04): This morning the first 100 new G-class trams rolled out of the Essendon depot – a wonderful investment in public transport, not just for Melbourne but for Melbourne’s western suburbs. These trams are designed around people, really importantly. They will take 150 passengers. More than that, they were built locally – 65 per cent local content manufacturing jobs in Dandenong. In addition, we know these trams will be able to take people with disability access. They will support environmental measures. They will be a game changer in Melbourne’s west, and we are really proud of our investments in Melbourne’s west too.

We know what is at risk with a One Nation–Liberal government. Their record shows they had a smaller rolling stock agenda than the ACT, who do not even have trams. Under our government we invest in rolling stock, we invest in jobs and we invest in people. People, transport – we focus on the basics. Cost of living is what our government is all about.
