Suburban Rail Loop

Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (14:11): My question is to the Premier. In June 2024 the Premier said:

I am supportive of the project. We have taken Suburban Rail Loop to two elections.

Why is the Premier reviewing a project he supported at two elections when he was the former Premier’s right-hand man?

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:11): Investing in public transport is a good thing. It is good for the economy, it is good for tackling transport emissions and it helps people get to where they need to get to.

Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (14:12): The Premier also said the SRL ‘is an investment and we can afford it’. The minister for the SRL has just said he is not stopping or pausing the SRL. So what is the point of the review?

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:12): I do not know what the member is referring to. All I can say is we are getting on with building world-class infrastructure. We are nation builders; they are One Nation builders.

Members interjecting.

The SPEAKER: The minister for housing will leave the chamber for half an hour. The Minister for Regional Development will leave the chamber for half an hour. Clapping is not allowed in the chamber at any time. Members will come to order.

Minister for Housing and Building and Minister for Regional Development withdrew from chamber.
