Government integrity

James NEWBURY (Brighton) (14:20): My question is to the Premier. The Premier says integrity will no longer be optional. The Premier has previously attended a private CFMEU fundraising lunch hosted by John Setka.

Members interjecting.

James NEWBURY: Shameful, mate.

The SPEAKER: Members will be removed from the chamber. I know that it is Thursday; it has been a big week for all members. But I think you need to show some respect.

Anthony Carbines: On a point of order, Speaker, I know that FOMO is not a point of order, but I just ask the member for Brighton to ask his question, please.

James NEWBURY: The Premier says integrity will no longer be optional. The Premier has previously attended a private CFMEU fundraising lunch hosted by John Setka. Why was the integrity of government optional when the Premier attended a lunch hosted by a man with more than 40 criminal convictions?

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:21): Every time the member for Brighton gets on his feet, I always think of that Michelle Obama quote: when they go low, you go high.

James Newbury: On a point of order, Speaker, what is the point of the relevance rule if the Premier keeps prematurely finishing?

The SPEAKER: There is no point of order.

James NEWBURY (Brighton) (14:22): The invitation to the private CFMEU lunch attended by the Premier promoted ‘the billions of dollars in government infrastructure work available to union members and affiliated builders’. What commitments did the Premier make to the CFMEU about preferential access to taxpayer-funded projects?

Members interjecting.

The SPEAKER: Order! Leader of the Nationals! Member for Croydon, that is your third warning.

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:23): It is breaking news that the Shadow Attorney-General knows how to use Google. No commitments were given.
