 Colin BROOKS (Bundoora – Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, Minister for Defence Industry, Minister for Skills and TAFE) (09:53): I rise today to honour the life of Michael Bourchier, a visionary manufacturer and passionate advocate of Australian industry whose recent passing is a profound loss to Victoria’s manufacturing community. A fitter and turner by trade, Michael began his career as an apprentice at Toyota before co-founding Amiga Engineering with his brother Dale in 1988. From humble beginnings and just a handful of manual machines, he built the Tullamarine-based family business into one of Australia’s leading advanced manufacturers, recognised internationally for its expertise in precision engineering, CNC machining and metal additive manufacturing. Michael was fiercely proud of Australian manufacturing and never stopped championing the capability of local industry. His leadership drove innovation, helping Amiga become one of only a handful of companies in the world capable of metal 3D printing in tungsten and the only company in Australia certified to print in Scalmalloy.

Those who knew Michael remember his generosity, optimism and unwavering support for others. He mentored countless people, built lifelong relationships, and treated customers, suppliers and employees alike like family. His belief in collaboration and sharing knowledge strengthened business across Victoria and inspired the next generation of manufacturers. His legacy lives on through the people he inspired and the enduring business that he created. I extend my sincere condolences to his wife Cecily, daughters Dee and Melissa, their families and everyone at Amiga Engineering.
