Future Footscray

Katie HALL (Footscray) (19:17): (1716) My adjournment matter tonight is for the Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts, Minister Symes in the other place, and the action I seek is for the minister to attend a meeting with me and the Future Footscray forum to discuss the work underway to revitalise the Footscray CBD precinct, which of course also includes the old Footscray Hospital. Community consultation opened today on this important new precinct in Footscray. In 2023 I established the Future Footscray forum for residents, businesses and local organisations to inform discussion and strategic planning for the future of Footscray’s CBD. Future Footscray is now being managed by the City of Maribyrnong.

The chair of Future Footscray Steve Sully is a local resident and an accomplished urban planner. For many years he has been involved with the Mainstreet Australia organisation, which was founded in Melbourne. I am a huge fan of the work of Mainstreet. They are dedicated to creating thriving local economies and vibrant communities. Mainstreet just celebrated 30 years of their work across the country, and whilst I was unable to attend their celebratory event, I wanted to mention the work of Mainstreet in influencing the Future Footscray forum here to mark the occasion.

It is because of the Allan Labor government’s generational investments into Footscray that we have an opportunity to capitalise on Footscray’s super diversity, creating opportunities for a sustainable, inclusive and vibrant precinct. Future Footscray is a long-term project guiding short-, medium- and long-term investments for this amazing part of Melbourne for a bright future for residents and businesses in Footscray’s CBD. I look forward to welcoming the Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts to my electorate and continuing the collaboration between my community and the Allan Labor government.
