That I introduce a bill for an act to amend the Crimes Act 1958 in relation to recruitment of children to engage in criminal activity and for other purposes.

Sonya KILKENNY (Carrum – Attorney-General, Minister for Planning, Minister for Violence Reduction, Minister for Finance) (10:09): This bill will amend the Crimes Act 1958 to introduce a new offence for recruiting a child to commit offences with a maximum penalty of at least 15 years. The new offence will have a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
