Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (14:37): (1692) Our emergency services respond to all types of emergencies and help keep communities safe. Lilydale SES provides vital emergency response in times of storms, floods and other emergencies and is a 100 per cent volunteer unit, and we thank them for their tremendous work. The Victoria State Emergency Service deserves increased and sustainable funding to ensure volunteers can access modern and fit-for-purpose vehicles and equipment. My question to the Minister for Emergency Services is: how much capital and operating funding is allocated to Lilydale SES in the 2026–27 state budget? I am concerned because the Victoria State Emergency Service annual report shows that the Labor government cut funding to the SES by $10 million last year despite promising more. There is no certainty funding will flow to the SES front line from Labor’s new emergency services and volunteers tax, because decisions about funding for the SES remain at the discretion of the minister and government year on year. That is not sustainable, is not transparent and provides no certainty. I will keep pushing for an essential services guarantee, no cuts to funding and more to the SES over time.
