Annabelle CLEELAND (Euroa) (10:29): I invited the Shadow Minister for Police to visit the Kilmore and Seymour police stations recently. Kilmore was built as a 24-hour station and now opens just one day a week, with the 24-hour response stretched between Wallan, Kilmore and Seymour. We sat down with local officers to hear about the pressures facing police on the front line. Police numbers are down, and we are asking fewer officers to cover more ground. We have had aggravated burglaries recently by opportunistic criminals who know our communities are vulnerable, and locals are deeply worried about community safety. People want a visible police presence in their town and confidence that help will be there when they need it. Our police work tirelessly, but they need help to keep us safe. That is why the Liberals and Nationals have committed to 3000 more additional police if elected this November.
