EidFest in the West
Dylan WIGHT (Tarneit) (10:42): Earlier this month I was delighted to join the community in Tarneit at EidFest in the West, put together by the AL-Madina Foundation in celebration of Eid al-Adha this year. Penrose Place was completely transformed, with vibrant stage performances, amusement rides, arts and sports competitions, camel rides, food trucks and so much more. There was something for everyone, and it was wonderful to see so many young families come down and have such a great time. I am proud to represent a community held together by people from all walks of life who can come together to celebrate and lift each other up. A multicultural and multifaith community is generous and strong, with deep cultural and spiritual perspectives that contribute greatly to the fabric of Tarneit. Recently the first round of multicultural festivals and events programs grants were announced – grants of up to $50,000 to support incredible festivals like EidFest in the West. The second round of grants will be announced in September this year. As the member for Tarneit, I have had the great pleasure to attend many multicultural and multifaith events and festivals. I am proud to be part of a government which supports all Victorians and prioritises social cohesion. Every person deserves the right to feel safe and respected within their communities, and EidFest in the West was a joyful illustration of exactly what that can look like.
